Du Fu is a Chinese poet from a cosmopolitan culture and the Tang Dynasty. He is frequently called the greatest of all the Chinese poets. Du Fu's core ideology is benevolent confucian, and has grand ambition that as an assistant monarch. This made his achievements transcend over Yao and Shun(greatest monarchs in ancient China) and allowed the decline of folk customs to return back to the original form of simplicity.

Although he was unkown to most writers, his works came to be greatly influential in both Chinese and Japanese literary cultures. From his poetic writings, nearly fifteen hundred poems have been preserved over the ages. He has been called the "Poet-Historian" and even the "Poet-Sage" by many Chinese critics and writers.
